Command Centre Debut! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Karl Mueller
Wednesday, 14 July 2010 11:00
As you are aware, thanks to the hard work of many LASARA members and the generous donations we've received from sponsors, the LASARA Command Centre will be put into operation very soon.

In recognition of the $10,000 donation contributed to this project by Cargill, we are scheduled to attend their Customer Appreciation BBQ on Tuesday August 10th in Lethbridge. This event will be from 11am to 2pm. We are looking for voluneteers to work this day to show off the new LASARA Command Centre as well as casually answer questions from the public on what LASARA does and how SAR supports the community.

This will be a great opportunity to improve public awareness on volunteer SAR activities, recruit new members. If you are available and interested, please contact Jassen Jackman (403.360.6405 or  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for more details.

Fund Raising - Thunder in the Valley PDF Print E-mail
Written by Karl Mueller

Once again the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass has requested assistance from LASARA during the Thunder in the Valley fireworks night hosted in Blairmore. On Saturday July 17th, 2010, the Town of Blairmore will host thousands of people that watch one of the largest fireworks displays you have ever seen. This is our most significant annual fund raising event that generates much of our annual operating costs.

For several years, LASARA has assisted the RCMP with traffic control as thousands of people leave town after the fireworks show. We need approximately 18 people to work in teams at major intersections within the town, while the RCMP coordinate traffic flow onto HWY #3.

A special reserve camping area is set up for LASARA members assisting with traffic control. We will meet Saturday afternoon in Blairmore to develop an action plan for those participating. Those members that have past “flagman” certification will be paired with less experienced members. A “flagman training course” may be held if we don’t have enough certified members attending. LASARA members will direct traffic following the fireworks display and then we will meet for breakfast Sunday morning.

Members interested should contact Terry Carter to signup or attend the Special July 5th Meeting for more details.

Special General Meeting – Command Center Wrap Up PDF Print E-mail

July 5th, 2010 at 7pm - Coaldale

Phase I of the Command Center Project is coming to a close, and we have a few loose ends to tie up.

Many items related to the interior finishing of the trailer that were scheduled to be completed in Phase II need to be completed at this stage of the manufacturing process. We require a Quorum to approve some final expenses that include the Phase II items, along with insurance and licensing.

Phase II items include the interior finishing, flooring, wall coverings, computer networking, electrical systems, lighting, and installation of the generator. A special conditional donation has been made by a corporate sponsor that will cover much of this cost, and with membership approval we can have the command center in operation in July.

Please plan on attending a Special General Meeting, Monday July 5th at 7pm at the Town of Coaldale shop on 13th Street in Coaldale. We will meet in the boardroom upstairs. Please contact Jassen Jackman or Terry Carter if you need better directions.
