Mock Search PDF Print E-mail

14 new participants of the Search and Rescue Fundamentals course spent a very cold night at Paradise Canyon Sunday Jan.20,2013.

A mock search intended to provide practical experience was headed up by V.P. to Lethbridge Area Search and Rescue Association [LASARA] Mr. Kelly James, and fundamentals instructor Chris Jorgenson, Canadian Search Dog Association [CSDA].
Members from both LASARA and CSDA put the recruits through their paces during the long training exercise. The evening consisted of using all techniques learned throughout the 40 hour plus classroom portion of the course including team work, communications, search patterns, first aid, and transportation of victims.

The success of the exercise wouldn't have been possible without the support of Mike Fleischhauer, general manager of Paradise Canyon
Golf Resort. He even acted as a volunteer mock victim. A special thank you to the staff and residents of Paradise Canyon for allowing us access to perform our training exercises.
Training is expensive, time consuming and requires cooperation from local residents and authorities. Training is essential to our preparedness so we can continue to provide this valuable service to our community. This is just one example of the many training activities we perform over the course of a year but it was particularly exciting to see many new, young faces interested and willing to volunteer their time and energy to help keep our community safe.
