Training Courses

Training of our members is a very inportant part of LASARA because it helps to keep our members safe while searching and increases the chance of completing a search quickly and effectively. All are active members have completed a minimum of two courses: Level 1 First Aid/CPR and Search and Rescue Fundamentals. These two courses provide the basic skills to become an active seracher.

Other members wish to become specialized ina certain area or Search and Rescue by taking extra courses to increase their knowledge and skills. Some areas of specialization include:

  • high angle rescue,
  • ice rescue, and
  • man tracking.

Specializing in a field does not limit an individual from participating in a search that does not require any specialized tactics. We ecourage all members to attend as many searches as possible. The larger the number of searchers, the more efficiently we can search.

Some courses are offered by LASARA, such as Search and Rescue Fundamentals. Other courses may be offered by outside agencies and groups, such as St. John's Ambulance offering Level 1 First Aid/CPR. Costs for courses vary depending on the course. In some instances LASARA may receive a governement grant to provide a certain course. In these cases the cost is likely to be greatly reduced.
